ESPAS, a Faiveley Transport group, sells its institutional catering activity, to focus on its growing railway activity

On the 30th October, Espas signed an agreement to sell its institutional catering activity to the company, ESPASELF. This newly created subsidiary of GIL (Groupement Informatique du Languedoc) will take over the activity in its entirety; GIL is an established market leader.

This sale involves transferring the entire catering activity, (sales of 715K Euros for the year 2006) together with its 6 employees. The two main solutions developed over the years by ESPAS are:

  •     ESPASELF : an all encompassing concept for the management of institutional catering that combines an automatic check-out system with integrated touch screens and a powerful IT management tool
  •     ESPASGDA : an innovative concept for the individual automatic distribution of meals upon request and at any moment; using secured refrigerators ; particularly well adapted when there is no canteen or the canteen is closed (evening, weekend).

The company ESPASELF, which is taking over this activity, will remain in Montlouis-sur-Loire on the ESPAS site. The team based in Montlouis-sur-Loire will work closely with GIL, based in Nimes.

This sale will enable ESPAS to focus on the growing railway activity which is now benefiting from Faiveley Transport’s global presence for the distribution of its on-board electronic products. Since ESPAS has been bought out by Faiveley Transport, orders have been registered from China, Korea, USA and Australia, for over 15 million Euros, making an increase of 44% in 6 months. This international development is also accompanied by an increase in the local market and this for all of ESPAS’s railway products including;  signalling beacon readers and decoding racks, driver vigilance surveillance (Dead man's switch), passenger information systems, auxiliary power converters, door control and speed regulation units.
