After 20 years good service, it was time for renovation: change the seats, decoration and also bring all the equipment up to date – for the passenger (passenger information systems) and also the operator (door & platform surveillance, emergency intercom, CCTV for driver only operation). Modernised with a new lease of life; but the train had not been originally designed for any of this! One particular problem was the passage of cables between the cars, especially at the automatic couplers which were not designed for fast, digital signals such as Ethernet 100M.

An IP (Video, Voice & Data) system along with JETSWITCH, a smart Ethernet switch & internet router, solved the problem, building a high speed backbone network on the train. The 2 Power Line Communication ports connect to the couplers, no new cables needed !

So, the train is now equipped with the full capacity and performance to be found on modern trains; maximum performance with minimum intervention.
